Antonov Design Bureau, Antonov An-225 Mriya, UR-82060.

A spotter’s dream come true – caught the Mriya. Granted, a bit of sunshine would have been nice – like 5 minutes before, and 1 minute after the landing.

Anyway, just seeing this awesome aircraft was a fantastic experience – goosebumps all over. And maybe I’ll catch her in the sunlight when she’ll leave Hamburg tomorrow.

More updates to follow soon – I have tons of new photos, from sunny and snowy days in Hamburg, and sunny and warm days in Miami. Stay tuned!

Dear Friends and followers of my humble website,

I wish you a Happy New Year, and hope that it will bring you health, luck and prosperity! Thanks a lot that you still follow my site!

Unfortunately, as you can see from the lack of recent uploads, I did not have too much time to take photos over the past months. The lack of light during fall and winter did not help, either.

But 2010 looks better, as there are several trips coming up, which should be good for new photo material. In the meantime, I took the time over the holidays to review and re-edit shots from earlier journeys.

I started back in 1995, when I traveled the US West Coast along with 3 friends. It was my first serious attempt at photography, with a borrowed Leica CL. I had uploaded a few shots from that trip earlier already, but I did complete re-edits that I will upload during January.

Hope you will enjoy them!

All the best
Stefan

No posts for over 2 months – sorry. For several reasons – not all of them pleasant – ‘real life’ was more important over the past few weeks.

But now I am back. And the good news is: with tons of new photos. So there will be plenty of updates for the weeks to come.

Most of them will be aviation related. Indeed, spotting and aviation is playing a larger and larger role in my life. This will show also in my photos. Not that there ever was a significant lack of aircraft motives anyway…

Speaking of aviation – with great pleasure, I would like to introduce a new venture: netAirspace.com. As some of the aviation communities I joined earlier were not doing too well lately, two friends and myself decided to start an own. Well, basically, we didn’t start it. It was there, anyway. We just gave it a new home.

Right now, that’s still a temporary home, which can be found on the very same server as this homepage. You can find the forum under http://netairspace.gebenus.com/

Soon, we will move to an own server, though, and start a complete aviation community website there, including a photo database. I’ll keep you posted – hope to see you there as well.

But enough talk – time for the first new photo posts. Thanks for still checking this site!

Stefan

And yet another A320 – but the last one for the moment, promised! This time a Lufthansa bird, taking off from runway 33 in glorious morning sunshine.

Air Berlin, Airbus A319-112, D-ABGN.

Thundering away from runway 33.

You may notice the faint watermark in the picture. It is an experiment, and I will probably not use it for all pictures. Still, as picture theft is an issue for every photographer, certain measures of protection will be inevitable, at least for some pics.

Showing a picture in a non-commercial environment (such as a private forum etc.) is okay, as long as you mention my copyright and provide a link to my website. But it is not okay to use my photos for commercial purposes, or to include them to a picture collection (like on Flickr etc.).

If you want to use a picture in such a context, please do contact me inforehand. A friendly request does not hurt. I’ll not ask you to sign long contracts or demand any rip-off fees. After all, I want my photos to be seen – else I would not maintain this website. But, like probably any other photographer, I just don’t like my photos to be used without my consent.

Thanks a lot for your consideration. And, as always, thank you very much for visiting my humble website! I am absolutely amazed to see that this site meanwhile has over a hundred individual visitors each day, and several thousand each month. I’d never have dreamt of such figures – you gals and guys are awesome!

Now, over the past days, I have been experimenting with a HDRI-like workflow for single RAW shots. And here’s the result. More to come soon.

As you may have noticed, some pictures have been resorted. Those are the shots that have recently been reworked, using my new and improved editing workflow. I changed the post date to the date when I uploaded the reworked shot, to give you a better overview on what has been updated.

These days, I am obviously more focused on reworking older shots, but I promise there will be new ones soon, too. However, I feel that the changes with my editing workflow have significantly improved the quality of the pictures, that’s why I am so keen on reworking the old ones.

I will occasionally publish some before/after mashups, to illustrate the difference the new workflow makes. And I am also working on an illustrated workflow guideline, though that may easily take a few more weeks before it is ready.

Anyway, in a nutshell, the message is: I am still alive, and so is the site. So stay tuned

All the best
They were later replaced by A340s, and the New York service was completely cancelled this year. Quite sad, as there are not that many widebodies serving HAM anyway.

First of all, apologies for the lack of recent updates. I took some time to work on my editing technique, with quite good results so far.

Thus, I decided to do a little “housekeeping”. I will check all shots I uploaded so far. Most will be reworked, and a few will probably leave the site. The process will take a couple of days. In the meantime, I will upload a few shots from earlier travels, including pictures from Mauritius, South Africa and Kazakhstan. Don’t expect too much in terms of quality, though – they were all taken with a rather mediocre 3 Mpxl compact camera.

Then, as the site has grown, I am working on proper gallery pages. The blog will stay, though, so that you can keep track of the most recent uploads.

Thanks a lot for the constant support you show by visiting this website. I am amazed that this small hobby project that is featuring no more than my own humble photos is nowadays regularly attracting over 500 individual visitors each week.

All the best
Stefan

Air Berlin, Airbus A320-214, D-ABDM.

On 31 August, I found a perfect setup in HAM. A nice and sunny afternoon, plus landings on runway 15, which is rather unusual. Thus, at the Ohemoor, you could get really close to the action. More shots from that session will follow throughout the week. Enjoy!

As you certainly noticed, I have made some changes to the site. I am quite obviously not an expert on that field, so the logo and the color design may see some more fine tuning.

Also, I have upgraded the WordPress software to the latest version, 2.6. Plus, I introduced a new picture category, Travel. This was done mainly to prepare the upload of a couple of photos from my 1995 US West Coast trip. I will upload them over the next days.

Also, there will be pictures from Crete, Mauritius and South Africa soon.

I hope you keep enjoying the site. It is my pleasure to welcome over 100 individual visitors each week already, and I hope it will become even more.

All the best
It is located south-west of Hamburg. I would recommend to visit it in spring (mid to late April, depending on the weather). The sight of thousands of apple trees being abloom is just spectacular.

Now, go ahead and call me shameless, but I had my camera set up already before this adorable couple decided to give me a very special show. I took this as their consent to publish this intimate picture for you to enjoy.

Update, 28 Aug 2009: The folks at Gizmodo.com found this picture and used it to promote a design contest for an alternative Apple Snow Leopard box. Check the result – it’s hilarious! Link

And speaking about being shameless: as this photo seems to enjoy quite a bit of extra attention these days, I would like to take the chance and advertise my latest project for aviation enthusiats:

Germanwings’ logo jet “Hamburg Shopper” taking off from 33. Lighting conditions were not optimal, so I played around and tried some panning shots. These are shots of fast-moving objects, taken with a longer exposure time than usual (here 1/125 sec., which is still rather short for panning).

While shooting, you don’t hold still, but follow the object with the camera. The result is a blurred background, while the moving object is supposed to stay sharp. The above result is far from being perfect, but for a first attempt, I am quite happy. Hope you enjoy it!
