Sandlake Dunes, Oregon / USA. September 1995.
We reached Sandlake Dunes in foggy weather. Strolling through the sand towards the Pacific Ocean, all we heard was the everlasting swell of the surf. I tried to capture the atmosphere before my friends vanished in the fog.

Pacific Coast, Oregon / USA. September 1995.
Third and last picture of the Pacific Coast series. Next stop on our journey will be foggy Sandlake Dunes.

Pacific Coast, Oregon / USA. September 1995.
Another reworked picture of the beautiful Oregon Pacific Coast. But as with the first one, I cannot name the exact location where it was taken.

Pacific Coast, Oregon / USA. September 1995.
This one, I uploaded earlier already, but reworked it since. Still no idea where exactly this picture was taken. Any helpful hint would be welcome.

Portland, Oregon / USA. September 1995.
Park at the Rose Garden.
Next stop on our journey was Portland, with its beautiful Rose Garden. Something tells me that Claude Monet would have liked this scene…

Seattle, Washington / USA. September 1995.
View from the Space Needle.
Evening view on Downtown Seattle. Above the old Kingdome, former home of the Seattle Mariners baseball team, you can see a faint image of Mount Rainier.

Seattle, Washington / USA. September 1995.
Space Needle Silhouette.
Our trip started in Seattle, which we reached via Chicago. Of course, we had to visit Seattle’s landmark, the Space Needle.

Berlin, Germany. October 2009.
Night view of the Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom), with the television tower at the Alexanderplatz in the background.
Despite of commonly being referred to as Cathedral (or ‘Dom’ in German), it is actually a Protestant church, that has never been the seat of a Catholic bishop. It was built between 1894 and 1905 after plans of Julius Raschdorff.

Potsdam, Park Sanssouci, Germany. November 2009.
Beautiful evening light at the New Palace (Neues Palais) in Sanssouci Royal Park. Completed in 1769, it is the last great Prussian baroque palace.

Hamburg-Blankenese, Germany. January 2009.
After the last posts were all focused on aircraft, I thought it was about time for something different again. So here is a shot from one of Hamburg’s most beautiful spots, Blankenese. Taken from the lighthouse in the river Elbe, on a glorious sunday afternoon in January.

Chania, Crete / Greece. May 2008.
I have no idea why it is called Ice Plant – after all, it looks more like summer sunshine. And the other nicknames of this Carpobrotus Edulis are actually not much better: Pigface, or Hottentot Fig. In German, they are called ‘Mittagsblume’ (Lunch Flower), and I somewhere read that they are edible.
Well, I prefer to take photos of them…

Hamburg, Germany. May 2008.
This is an aerial view of the 819th Port of Hamburg Anniversary. I took the picture out of the Condor B757 that brought us back from our Crete vacation. The pilot circled twice over the port, offering us a most spectacular view. In this picture, you can see – among others – the cruise ship “Brilliance of the Seas”, frigates “Blas de Lezo” and “Vasco da Gama”, and the Russian clippers “Kruzenshtern” and “Sedov”.

Grand Canyon, Arizona / USA. September 1995.
Scanned from print.

Hamburg, Germany. August 2008.
Hamburg’s landmark, the ‘Michel’ church, with it’s bluely illuminated bell tower during the Hamburg Cruise Days 2008.

Redwood National Park, California / USA. September 1995.
Feeling really small under some really, really big trees…

Both Hamburg, Germany. April 2007.
Following a recent discussion in a photography forum tonight, I have been playing around a bit with some earlier attempts at creating HDR images.

Near Rethymno, Crete / Greece. May 2008.
Archway within the Arkadi Monastery, which is famous for the Cretan revolt against the Turks in 1866.

Hamburg, Germany. June 2007.
The port never sleeps. Daylight is replaced by thousands of lamps, so that work can go on for the night shift. Every day, every night.
Taken from St. Michaelis church tower (Hamburg’s emblem, the ‘Michel’) out of the hand with an exposure time of 1/2 second.

Chania, Crete / Greece. May 2008.
Really, what was this horse thinking!? The sign clearly reads: no parking! Does he think his fancy hat will help him? This is so wrong…
(Taken in the port of Chania – this picture is not ‘photoshopped’.)

Near Prinias, Crete / Greece. May 2008.
The Agios Panteleimon Chapel is watching over the area around Iraklion. The chapel is located within the ancient Minoan ruins of Rizinia. Seems that the fascination of a stunning view worked already 4000 years ago.
